About Kindnes

What does it mean to be Kind?
Perhaps it is the most powerful of the human virtues,
It brings relief,
It offers hope,
Kindness says to another,
“I see you, you are not alone!”
But kindness has many forms,
It can bring physical pain whilst delivering First Aid,
It may cause humiliation when delivering much needed correction.
Kindness opens the door to the delivery of much needed lessons,
It may use harshness to keep another safe,
It also removes the burden from arduous tasks,
And extinguishes fatigue when storm and tempest visit out neighbors.
Kindness softens tension in a stressed person or room,
It eases conflict and restores trust.
It opens hearts and grounds people,
Bringing ease to stressed and worried minds.
Kindness is not weakness as some often believe,
In fact, sometimes, the decision to be kind requires a defiance of danger,
A decision to be bold and courageous, to push through.
And kindness creates robust mental wellbeing for the kind,
As attention comes off self and flows to the other,
As self-absorption drops when concern for the other is greater.
A genuine act of kindness creates a powerful acknowledgement of self,
It leaves a realization, “I’m ok. I am doing good.”
Kind people like who they are,
They sleep well at night, knowing they have made a contribution today.
It might be nothing more than a warm friendly smile,
Or taking care of a frightened child,
Or stepping in when a Bully is doing their thing.
Or stopping to listen when someone has a concern.
Kindness dissolves mistrust.
We all have it.
We all know it.
We have boundless reserves of it.
We can do much more of it.
Genuine kindness changes lives, workplaces and communities.
Genuine kindness can change the world.
How is your workplace doing?
How is your community doing?
