Regarding Humility
What is the story regarding humility...
What is the Story regarding Humility?
One of the great human Virtues,
Often seemingly a word used to refer to a Monk,
Or a good-natured loser in sport.
Where do Humility and Masculinity meet?
One could say that humility is a powerful antidote
To the dangers of egotistic mayhem.
It may be confused with meekness, or weakness,
It may be seen as hiding or backing away.
But humility is a place of deep power,
It is the home of Silent Power.
Humility keeps attention off self,
Stands as a guardian over self-absorption,
Over self-aggrandizement.
Humility is allowing others to shine,
It is leading from the rear,
No chest beating nor back slapping,
Watching, patient and aware,
Always ready with a quiet word of encouragement or correction,
But never stealing the attention.
But knowing when it is time to step up and act,
To be a fierce guardian when needed.
A humble man is an unknown to his foes,
And a trusted guide to his friends and allies,
I remember a powerful saying,
“Beware the wrath of a quiet man!”
A strong, humble man is a safe man to be around,
He has no need to “make people safe”,
He creates a space where people feel safe.
Genuine Strength, coupled with patient humility
May well be the ultimate expression of masculinity.
This is something we can nurture in our workplaces, schools and communities.
If we do this well, the likes of Andrew Tate will fade into the background.
Are you up for it?
Is Your workplace up for it?
Is your School up for it?
Is your Sports Club up for it?
Where are your next group of grounded, sincere and integrity driven leaders going to come from?
